Color block puzzle: how to play Brew Blocks

How to play

1. Swipe or drag a block, or tap it and then one of its arrows. It slides in a straight line until it hits a wall or another block; it never stops halfway.
2. Gates sit in the wall around the board. A block that slides into a gate of its own color leaves the board, as long as the gate is at least as wide as the block. Clear every block to finish the level.
3. Brewing: slide a red, blue or yellow block into a block of another of those three colors and they fuse into one block of the mixed color. Red and blue make purple, blue and yellow make green, red and yellow make orange. The new block covers both blocks’ cells, so the direction you brew in decides its shape.
4. Mixed colors never brew again, same colors never brew, and a block that stops against two blocks at once brews with neither.
5. Later levels add dye pools, which turn a red, blue or yellow block that slides across them into the mixed color, and frozen blocks, which cannot move until another block slides into them.
6. Every level and daily puzzle is checked by the game’s solver before you see it, so every one can be cleared, and its par is the fewest moves the solver needs.

Controls

Touch

Swipe a block to slide it, or tap it and then an arrow. Tapping an empty square in line with a picked block sends it that way.

Mouse

Drag a block in the direction you want, or click it and then an arrow.

Keyboard

Tab to a block and press an arrow key to slide it. H shows a hint, U undoes, R restarts the puzzle, P pauses and Esc clears the pick.

Score and progress

Every slide is one move, brews and exits included. Finish at or under par for three stars and within three moves of par for two; any finish earns one. Each puzzle has two hints and three undos. Undo takes back a move and its count; Restart starts the puzzle over from zero moves. Your stars for each level and your daily streak stay on this device.

Tips

• Read the gates before you slide. A primary color with no gate of its own has to brew, and the gate colors tell you which pair it needs.
• Brew in the direction that gives the right shape. Blocks fused side by side lie flat; fused top to bottom they stand up, and a narrow gate only takes one of the two.
• Clear the way first. A block that must leave as it is can brew by accident if another primary sits in its path.
• Blocks only stop at walls and other blocks, so use them as stoppers: park one block where another needs to stop in line with its gate.
• A wrong brew or dye can leave a block no gate will take. Hint tells you when that has happened without spending a hint; Undo takes the move back.
