Spider Solitaire, the classic two-deck card game: 1, 2 or 4 suits, numbered deals, drag or tap controls, undo, hints and a daily deal.

How to play

  1. Spider uses two decks, 104 cards. The goal is to build eight runs, each from king down to ace in one suit. A finished run leaves the table for the foundations by itself, and clearing all eight wins the game.
  2. The deal puts 54 cards in ten columns: six in each of the first four columns and five in the other six, with only the top card face up. The other 50 cards are the stock, at the top left.
  3. Any card can go on a card one rank higher, of any suit: a 7 on any 8. A king can only go into an empty column, and nothing goes on an ace.
  4. Several cards move together only when they are a run of one suit in order, like the 9, 8 and 7 of hearts. With one suit every card is a spade, so any run in order can move.
  5. When the last face-up card leaves a column, the card under it turns face up. Any card or run can go into an empty column.
  6. Tap the stock to deal one card onto each of the ten columns; there are five deals. As in the standard rules, you cannot deal while a column is empty: put a card or a run into it first.
  7. Choose 1 suit (all spades), 2 suits (spades and hearts) or 4 suits. Deals are numbered, so the same number gives the same cards again. The daily deal is a one-suit game, the same for everyone each UTC day.

Controls

Touch
Drag a card, or a run of one suit, to another column, or tap it and then tap the column where it goes. Double-tap a card to send it and the run on it to the best column. Tap the stock to deal.
Mouse
Drag cards, or click a card and then the column it goes to. Double-click a card to move its run to the best column. Click the stock to deal.
Keyboard
Tab or the arrow keys move between the stock and the ten columns. Enter picks up the run on top of a column (press it again on the same column to pick up one card fewer), then Enter on another column puts it there. Enter on the stock or D deals, H shows a hint, U or Ctrl+Z undoes, N deals a new game, P pauses and Esc drops the pick.

Score and progress

Every card or run you move and every deal from the stock counts as one move; runs that leave the table by themselves do not. The clock runs from your first move until the last run is home, stopping while the game is paused. Undo takes moves back one at a time, a deal too, Hint shows a helpful move, and when nothing on the table helps the game says so and offers a deal, Undo or a new deal. Questions before you play

How do you play Spider Solitaire?

Build eight runs, each from king down to ace in one suit. Any card can go on a card one rank higher of any suit, but only a run of one suit in order moves together. A finished run leaves the table by itself, a face-down card turns up when the cards above it leave, and the stock deals one more card onto every column.

What is the difference between 1, 2 and 4 suits?

With 1 suit every card is a spade, so any run in order can move: the easiest game and the one most people play. With 2 suits (spades and hearts) and 4 suits you have to keep each run to one suit before it can move or leave, which makes the game much harder.

Why can I not deal from the stock?

In standard Spider every column needs at least one card before you deal. If a column is empty, move a card or a run into it first, then tap the stock. There are five deals of ten cards.

Is there undo, a hint and a daily deal?

Yes. Undo takes moves back one at a time, a deal too, and Hint shows a helpful move or tells you to deal. The daily deal is a one-suit game, the same for everyone each UTC day.

Is this Spider Solitaire free with no download?

Yes. Spider Solitaire plays free in your browser on phones, tablets and computers, with touch, mouse or keyboard, and needs no account. Games played, games won, your best time and your fewest moves for each difficulty are saved on this device.
